Living Tokyo – Apparent Calm Before the Storm

Hi guys, missed me? From my last article about the KPOP industry, I had the chance to listen to many new songs that are becoming the soundtrack of this moment of my life. Does this occur also to you? Anyway, let’s see what happened in the last two weeks…

Discovering new places and events

There are so many things to do that you have to lock yourself inside your mini-apartment to end up without gaining any new experience. In just two weeks I have been to the Sanja Matsuri at Sensoji temple, one of the most important festivals in Tokyo (and the first of my life!); the Anata no Warehouse in Kawasaki, a game center built like Hong Kong’s Kowloon walled city (scary but definitely amazing!); the Sunshine Aquarium in Sunshine City, Ikebukuro (super relaxing!); the Kawaii Monster Cafè, Harajuku (crazy place that worth a visit); and a Bowling center in Shinjuku, where I played after 5 years of inactivity (and the result was awful). Finally, yesterday I had the chance to visit Shizuoka prefecture, where I have been on top of Mt. Omuro (580 m) and saw beautiful beaches (my first walk barefoot on the sand, and the water temperature seemed to be perfect, at least for my feet :P).

Friendship is key

It is not over yet! The best thing is when you experience something with old and new friends. I had the chance to participate with Chiara to an interview in Ikebukuro, we will appear in a Japanese tv programme! Then my Swiss friends who were travelling through Japan spent their last week in Tokyo, and we participated to the Oedo Beer Festival in Shinjuku, where I tried some of the best local beers. The following week was pretty intense since I went out with them a lot. We spent three evenings at アルプス (Alps), which is one of my favorite izakaya for its decent food, cheap beer, and warm atmosphere. I beat my record of visits while they became real Tokyoite! 😛 We met new Japanese friends we went to karaoke with, and with whom I am still in contact. Last but not least, I had a great dinner with my ex-classmates in a Korean restaurant of Shin-Okubo, while last Friday I participated to an evening organized by my Lugano university (USI) where I met the Alumni who now live in Tokyo.

A new part-time job

On the work side, after a couple of months I quit my previous part-time, I focused on the new harder level at school, and then I searched for a new one. Again, as soon as I sent a couple of e-mails, this time to researches made on Craigslist Tokyo, I found it. And this is more fine tuned with what I am: a creative communicator, a writer. Since I visited many places in Japan, I will write about them. A shorter version of every article will be released also on my blog, with a link to the original ones. Stay tuned!

See you in two weeks

From tomorrow my exams weeks will begin. Six different challenges are waiting for me (writing, listening, reading, speaking, kanji, and grammar) spread in a short period of time. After these two weeks I will let you know if passed all of them! I am also trying to get the school’s scholarship, for this reason I will have an additional interview among the exams. Wish me good luck! 😉

Ciao ragazzi, vi sono mancata? Dal mio ultimo articolo sull’industria del KPOP, ho ascoltato molte nuove canzoni che stanno diventando la colonna sonora di questo momento della mia vita. Capita anche a voi? In ogni caso, vediamo cosa è successo nelle scorse due settimane…

Alla scoperta di nuovi luoghi ed eventi

Ci sono così tante cose da fare che bisogna rinchiudersi nel proprio mini-appartamento per ritrovarsi senza nuove esperienze. In sole due settimane sono stata al Sanja Matsuri al tempio Sensoji, uno dei festival più importanti di Tokyo (e il primo della mia vita!); all’Anata no Warehouse di Kawasaki, una sala giochi costruita come la città murata di Kowloon di Hong Kong (da brividi ma decisamente eccezionale!); il Sunshine Aquarium a Sunshine City, Ikebukuro (super rilassante!); il Kawaii Monster Cafè, Harajuku (luogo folle che merita una visita); e a un Bowling a Shinjuku, dove ho giocato dopo 5 anni di inattività (e il risultato è stato terribile). Infine, ieri ho avuto la possibilità di visitare la prefettura di Shizuoka, dove sono stata in cima al monte Omuro (580 m) e ho visto bellissime spiagge (la mia prima camminata a piedi nudi sulla sabbia, e la temperatura dell’acqua sembrava perfetta, almeno per i miei piedi :P).

L’amicizia è la chiave

Non è finita qui! La cosa migliore è quando si prova qualcosa con vecchi e nuovi amici. Ho avuto la possibilità di partecipare con Chiara ad un’intervista a Ikebukuro, compariremo in un programma televisivo giapponese! Poi dei miei amici svizzeri che stavano viaggiando per il Giappone hanno trascorso la loro ultima settimana a Tokyo, e abbiamo partecipato all’Oedo Beer Festival a Shinjuku, dove ho avuto la possibilità di provare alcune delle migliori birre locali. La settimana seguente è stata piuttosto intensa dal momento che sono uscita molto con loro. Abbiamo trascorso tre serate all’アルプス (Alpi), che è uno dei miei izakaya preferiti per il suo cibo decente, birra economica e calda atmosfera. Ho battuto il mio record di visite mentre loro sono diventati veri edochiani! 😛 Abbiamo incontrato nuovi amici giapponesi con cui siamo andati al karaoke e con i quali sono ancora in contatto. Infine, ho avuto un’ottima cena con i miei ex compagni di classe in un ristorante coreano di Shin-Okubo, mentre lo scorso venerdì ho partecipato a una serata organizzata dalla mia università di Lugano (USI) dove ho incontrato gli Alumni che ora vivono a Tokyo .

Un nuovo lavoro part-time

Dal punto di vista lavorativo, dopo un paio di mesi ho lasciato il mio precedente part-time, mi sono concentrata sul nuovo livello più difficile a scuola, e poi ne ho cercato uno nuovo. Ancora una volta, non appena ho inviato un paio di e-mail, questa volta a ricerche fatte su Craigslist Tokyo, l’ho trovato. E questo è più in linea con quello che sono: una comunicatrice creativa, una scrittrice. Poiché ho visitato molti luoghi in Giappone, scriverò riguardo a essi. Una versione più breve di ogni articolo verrà pubblicata anche sul mio blog, con un link a quelli originali. Rimanete sintonizzati!

Ci sentiamo tra due settimane

Da domani inizieranno le mie settimane di esami. Mi aspettano sei diverse sfide (scritto, ascolto, lettura, orale, kanji e grammatica) distribuiti in un breve periodo di tempo. Dopo queste due settimane vi farò sapere se li ho passati tutti! Sto anche cercando di ottenere la borsa di studio della scuola, per questo motivo avrò un ulteriore colloquio tra un esame e l’altro.
