Living Tokyo – First Week Report

Our first week in Tokyo has already finished, here you can see a video summary on my YouTube channel 🙂

Day 1:
Emperor’s greetings
As soon as we landed, we went to the Emperor Palace in Chiyoda to see him and his family. Did you know that Akihito will be the first Emperor to abdicate? His son will take his place in April 2019.

Day 2:
Sugamo, the granny’s neighborhood
Here everything remained like it was in the 70es, there are food stores, little restaurants, and shops. Famous are the ones selling red underwear, which brings good luck.

Shibuya, dogs, friends, and beers
After greeting our beloved Hachiko’s statue, we met the guys of Trip n Roll, who made a stop in Japan, then Roberto and I went to drink a good Japanese craft beer 🙂

Day 3:
From the Airbnb to the final apartment!
We moved to my new apartment where I will stay for my entire journey. It is so sweet! Everything is like I imagined, I couldn’t believe that 😀 we then did the groceries for the house in Shinjuku and settled in.

Day 4:
Nakano, my neighbourhood
This neighborhood is called the “little Akihabara”, because its “Nakano Broadway” is a street for otaku (おたく) people obsessed in particular by manga and anime. We found so many strange and interesting things there!

Shinjuku, ufocatchers and shabu shabu
We spent the evening in Shinjuku, where we played in several Arcade full of ufocatchers with cute plush toys, and shared a shabu shabu (thinly sliced meat and vegetables that you boil in water) with two Japanese friends.

Day 6: 
Hakihabara, the electric town
We met some new Italian friends, who are going to study Japanese like me. The meeting point was this crazy neighborhood, where we wandered among electronic devices shops and Arcade. In the evening, Roberto and I also experienced the first International Maid Café, where the staff comes from different countries other than Japan.

Day 7: 
Harajuku, cosplayers spotting
Unfortunately, we saw only a few cosplayers, even if it was Sunday. The Takeshita Street was full of people and there was a great atmosphere.

Gotokuji and Takadanobaba, two different worlds
We decided to escape the crowd to go to a temple. Unfortunately it was already closed, but we enjoyed a walk in the calm Gotokuji area. Later, we made a stop at Takadanobaba, that is again the complete opposite with lights, shops, and high buildings.

Giorno 1:
Saluti dell’imperatore
Non appena siamo atterrati, ci siamo diretti al Palazzo dell’imperatore a Chiyoda per vedere lui e la sua famiglia. Sapevate che Akihito sarà il primo imperatore ad abdicare? Suo figlio prenderà il suo posto ad aprile 2019.

Giorno 2:
Sugamo, il quartiere della nonna
Qui tutto è rimasto come negli anni ’70, ci sono alimentari, piccoli ristoranti e negozi. Sono famosi quelli che vendono la biancheria intima rossa che porta fortuna.

Shibuya, cani, amici e birre
Dopo aver salutato la nostra amata statua di Hachiko, abbiamo incontrato i ragazzi di Trip n Roll, che hanno fatto tappa in Giappone, poi io e Roberto siamo andati a bere una buona birra artigianale giapponese 🙂

Giorno 3:
Da Airbnb all’appartamento finale!
Ci siamo trasferiti nel mio nuovo appartamento dove soggiornerò per tutto il mio viaggio. È così dolce! Tutto è come immaginavo, non potevo crederci 😀 abbiamo quindi fatto la spesa per la casa a Shinjuku e ci siamo pienamente insediati.

Giorno 4:
Nakano, il mio quartiere
Questo quartiere è chiamato la “piccola Akihabara”, perché la sua “Nakano Broadway” è una strada per otaku (お た く) le persone ossessionate soprattutto da manga e anime. Abbiamo trovato tante cose strane e interessanti qui!

Shinjuku, ufocatchers e shabu shabu
Abbiamo trascorso la serata a Shinjuku, dove abbiamo giocato nelle diverse sale giochi piene di ufocatchers con graziosi peluche, e abbiamo condiviso una shabu shabu (carne a fettine sottili e verdure che si fanno bollire in acqua) con due amici giapponesi.

Giorno 6:
Hakihabara, la città elettrica
Abbiamo incontrato alcuni nuovi amici italiani, che studieranno giapponese come me. Il punto d’incontro è stato questo pazzo quartiere, dove abbiamo vagato tra i negozi di dispositivi elettronici e sale giochi. In serata, io e Roberto abbiamo anche sperimentato il primo International Maid Café, in cui lo staff proviene da paesi diversi dal Giappone.

Giorno 7:
Harajuku, avvistamenti di cosplayer
Sfortunatamente, abbiamo visto solo pochi cosplayer, anche se era domenica. La via Takeshita era piena di gente e c’era un’atmosfera fantastica.

Gotokuji e Takadanobaba, due mondi diversi
Abbiamo deciso di fuggire dalla folla per andare in un tempio. Purtroppo era già chiuso, ma ci siamo goduti una passeggiata nella tranquilla area di Gotokuji. Più tardi, ci siamo fermati a Takadanobaba, che è ancora l’esatto contrario con luci, negozi e alti edifici.

Ci vediamo con il prossimo rapporto, questa settimana inizia la scuola 🙂
