Living Tokyo – Second Week Report

Well done! Also the second week in this crazy Tokyo has passed, and I am writing this article while Roberto is on his flight towards home. The real adventure for me begins now, completely alone, in my little apartment, in the giant Japanese capital 🙂

So, what happened since the last article, Living Tokyo – First Week Report?

Day 1:
Holidays and robots
The second Monday of January is the Coming of Age Day (成人の日): Boys and girls who turn 20 celebrate this step in their city wards. We met several people dressed in beautiful kimono in Shinjuku. The afternoon was the trashiest one with the visit of the Godzilla head and the Robot Restaurant.

Day 2:
Temples and parks
After a brief stop in Takadanobaba, we visited Yasukuni Shrine dedicated to the people who died during wars. We then wandered in the beautiful Ueno park with its stunning temples and shrines. There are statues of pandas everywhere, since in the zoo a baby panda (Xiang Xiang) was born!

Day 3:
Fish and Gundam
The Tsukiji Fish Market is divided between the external and the covered one, which is the most famous. It was a real adventure walking among tuna heads and alive fishes on sale. Our breakfast was a juicy tuna sashimi 😛 We then moved to Odaiba, where we enjoyed a romantic sunset over Rainbow Bridge and the (reproduced) Statue of Liberty and saw the life-size Gundam (ガンダム) and the Gundam Base.

Day 4:
First day of school!
Thursday was my first day of school: It is great to feel like a student again. The staff presented us programs, objectives, and gave us pieces of advice about life in Japan. They already told us about all the exams and tests we will have!

Day 5:
Student’s life
In the morning we walked around Shinjuku searching for good sweets to bring to our parents. Then there was my first Japanese lesson! The rythm is fast and my colleagues are just perfect. I made new friends.

Day 6:
Little Edo
We visited Kawagoe, which is called little Edo because of its ancient architecture. There are beautiful shrines and a street dedicated only to sweets! In the evening we joined other students in an international party in Harajuku, where we met some Japanese guys.

Day 7:
On the mountain
We decided to travel far from the crowded city, but not too much. Mount Takao was the perfect choice. We spent the day walking up the mountain, taking pictures, enjoying the temples, shrines, beautiful views, and eating dango (団子). We saw the sunset on the Mount Fuji, which you can see if you arrive at the top of Takaosan (599 m).

Molto bene! Anche la seconda settimana in questa pazza Tokyo è passata, e sto scrivendo questo articolo mentre Roberto è sul suo volo verso casa. La vera avventura per me inizia ora, completamente sola, nel mio piccolo appartamento, nella gigantesca capitale giapponese 🙂

Giorno 1:
Vacanze e robot
Il secondo lunedì di gennaio è il Coming of Age Day (成人 の 日): i ragazzi e le ragazze che compiono 20 anni celebrano questo passaggio nei loro quartieri cittadini. Abbiamo incontrato diverse persone vestite con bellissimi kimono a Shinjuku. Il pomeriggio è stato il più trash con la visita della testa Godzilla e del Robot Restaurant.

Giorno 2:
Templi e parchi
Dopo una breve sosta a Takadanobaba, abbiamo visitato il Santuario Yasukuni dedicato alle persone che sono morte durante le guerre. Abbiamo poi vagato nel bellissimo parco di Ueno con i suoi templi e santuari mozzafiato. Ci sono statue di panda ovunque, perché nello zoo è nato un cucciolo di panda (Xiang Xiang)!

Giorno 3:
Pesce e Gundam
Il mercato ittico di Tsukiji è diviso tra quello esterno e quello coperto, che è il più famoso. È stata una vera avventura passeggiare tra teste di tonno e pesci vivi in ​​vendita. La nostra colazione è stata un succoso sashimi di tonno 😛 Poi ci siamo spostati a Odaiba, dove abbiamo goduto di un romantico tramonto sul Rainbow Bridge e sulla (riprodotta) Statua della Libertà e dove abbiamo visto Gundam (ガンダム) a grandezza naturale e la Gundam Base.

Giorno 4:
Primo giorno di scuola!
Il giovedì è stato il mio primo giorno di scuola: è bello sentirsi di nuovo studente. Lo staff ci ha presentato programmi, obiettivi e ci ha dato consigli sulla vita in Giappone. Ci hanno già parlato di tutti gli esami e test che avremo!

Giorno 5:
Vita da studente
Al mattino abbiamo girato per Shinjuku alla ricerca di buoni dolci da portare ai nostri genitori. Poi c’è stata la mia prima lezione di giapponese! Il ritmo è veloce e i miei compagni sono semplicemente perfetti. Mi sono fatta nuove amiche.

Giorno 6:
Piccola Edo
Abbiamo visitato Kawagoe, chiamata piccola Edo per la sua architettura antica. Ci sono dei bellissimi santuari e una strada dedicata solo ai dolci! La sera ci siamo uniti ad altri studenti in una festa internazionale a Harajuku, dove abbiamo conosciuto alcuni ragazzi giapponesi.

Giorno 7:
Sulla montagna
Abbiamo deciso di viaggiare lontano dall’affollata città, ma non troppo. Il monte Takao era la scelta perfetta. Abbiamo trascorso la giornata camminando su per la montagna, fotografando, godendo di templi, santuari, viste meravigliose e mangiando dango (団 子). Abbiamo visto il tramonto sul Monte Fuji, che si può ammirare se si arriva in ​​cima al Takaosan (599 m).
