Living Tokyo – My (Stra)ordinary Japanese Life

In my last article, Latest News from the Big City, I told you about my school’s results, scholarship, and networking experiences. I was also sick at home, trying not to get too much crazy. In the following days, so many things happened, let’s discover them!

Inside Japan – Virtual Tours!
First, I released a video about the new section Inside Japan – Virtual Tours! dedicated to travel tips and single destinations. This is a big project I thought about since before coming to Japan, it was time launch it! Are you ready? 🙂

Exploring with friends
Finally after five days of sickness I fully recovered, and I could explore Japan again. I began with the set of the anime Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name.), where I have been with my friend Sofie (the one who sits next to me in the school’s video). We visited Yotsuya station, and saw all the streets that lead to the famous stairs of Suga Shrine. It was super exciting for me. I shoot videos there, so stay tuned, but be aware of spoilers! Then came the moment where I had to greet one of my best friends, Chiara (the one who dances in the corridor ;)), who is now back in Europe. We had pancakes in Harajuku as lunch, and dinner in the evening in Shibuya. We then wanted to spend more time together so we went dancing in a club. She wrote me a super cute letter that made me almost cry. I miss her a lot and I cannot wait to see her again!

Exploring alone
Places I visited alone were Fussa, about one hour by train from Tokyo (Saitama prefecture), where there is the Yokota US Air Base. I had a delicious “American style” hamburger and then a shopping afternoon among eccentric shops of American antiques and clothes. I also had a chat with the owner of the Big Mama, one of the most famous boutiques of the shopping street. She has been to the US 42 times circa and has a wide collection of old American goods. Always in Saitama prefecture, I had a walk in the forests near Hanno station, until I reached Kinchakuda, where I bought organic potatoes from a kind old man and I saw ponies and horses. Many people go there to chill by the river, so if I will go back, I should definitely bring a towel and a good book! Another day I have been to the sea instead, in Kamakura (home of the big statue of Buddha, 大仏), where I had a walk on Yuigahama beach and a yummy lunch with a view in a “Californian style” restaurant. Then I reached Enoshima, where I climbed up the mountain, visited the Shrines, and enjoyed the beautiful view from the Observation Lighthouse. Coming back home I had the chance to take my first monorail with the tracks above it, it felt like flying!

Back to my duties again
New school’s term, new look: I cut my hair! You can see the result on my Facebook page. Then I took the last day of holidays to relax at Yoyogi park with a book and buy school stuff in Ikebukuro. I ended up in Sunshine City’s Pokémon Store where I purchased cute Pikachu’s notebooks. At school we had a little ceremony for the scholarship: The other “winners” and me received a beautiful document and the money from the director in front of all the teachers and staff. The first lessons then were already full of grammar and new vocabulary, and the great piece of news is that we will have more exams this term than ever. Will I survive? Let’s bet! In the meantime, I have been to a new networking event in Ginza, in the beautiful setting of Cité du Temps. Next week I will have a new event and an interview with a recruitment agency. Will I eventually find a full-time job in Japan? Let’s bet again 😛

As you can see, life is getting more stressful and complicated here, but I will do my best to keep you always updated!

Sono stata anche a casa malata, dove ho cercato di non diventare troppo pazza. Nei giorni seguenti poi sono successe tante cose, scopriamole insieme!

Inside Japan – Virtual Tours!
Innanzitutto, ho pubblicato un video sulla nuova sezione Inside Japan – Virtual Tours! dedicata a consigli di viaggio e alle singole destinazioni. Questo è un grande progetto a cui ho pensato sin da prima di venire in Giappone, era arrivato il momento di iniziarlo! Siete pronti? 🙂

Esplorando con gli amici
Finalmente, dopo cinque giorni di malattia, mi sono completamente ristabilita e ho potuto ricomincare a esplorare il Giappone. Ho iniziato con il set dell’anime Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name.), dove sono stata con la mia amica Sofie (quella che siede accanto a me nel video della scuola). Abbiamo visitato la stazione di Yotsuya e abbiamo visto tutte le strade che portano alla famosa scalinata del Santuario di Suga. È stato super emozionante per me. Ho filmato dei video lì, quindi rimanete sintonizzati, ma fate attenzione a possibili spoiler! Poi è arrivato il momento in cui ho dovuto salutare una delle mie migliori amiche, Chiara (quella che danza nel corridoio ;)), che ora è tornata in Europa. Abbiamo mangiato pancake a Harajuku per pranzo e abbiamo cenato a Shibuya la sera. Poi volevamo passare più tempo insieme, così siamo andate a ballare in un club. Mi ha scritto una lettera dolcissima che mi ha fatto quasi piangere. Mi manca molto e non vedo l’ora di rivederla!

Esplorando da sola
Luoghi che ho visitato da sola sono stati Fussa, a circa un’ora di treno da Tokyo (prefettura di Saitama), dove c’è la base aerea degli Stati Uniti di Yokota. Ho mangiato un delizioso hamburger “americano” e poi ho avuto un pomeriggio di shopping tra eccentrici negozi di antiquariato e vestiti americani. Ho anche fatto una chiacchierata con la proprietaria di Big Mama, una delle boutique più famose della shopping street. È stata negli Stati Uniti circa 42 volte e ha una vasta collezione di antichi oggetti americani. Sempre nella prefettura di Saitama, ho fatto una passeggiata nei boschi vicino alla stazione di Hanno, fino a raggiungere Kinchakuda, dove ho comprato patate biologiche da un anziano gentile e ho visto pony e cavalli. Molte persone vanno lì per rilassarsi in riva al fiume, quindi se dovessi tornare, devo assolutamente portare un asciugamano e un buon libro! Un altro giorno invece sono stata al mare, a Kamakura (dimora della grande statua di Buddha, 大仏), dove ho fatto una passeggiata sulla spiaggia di Yuigahama e mangiato un gustoso pranzo con vista in un ristorante in “stile californiano”. Poi ho raggiunto Enoshima, dove ho scalato la montagna, visitato i Santuari e goduto della splendida vista dall’Observation Lighthouse. Tornando a casa ho avuto la possibilità di prendere la mia prima monorotaia con i binari sopra di essa, sembrava di volare!

Ritornare ai propri doveri
Nuovo trimestre di scuola, nuovo look: mi sono tagliata i capelli! Potete vedere il risultato sulla mia pagina Facebook. Poi ho deciso di prendermi l’ultimo giorno di vacanza per rilassarmi al parco di Yoyogi con un libro e comprare materiale scolastico a Ikebukuro. Sono finita nel negozio dei Pokémon a Sunshine City, dove ho acquistato graziosi quaderni di Pikachu. A scuola c’è stata una piccola cerimonia per la borsa di studio: gli altri “vincitori” e io abbiamo ricevuto un bellissimo documento e il denaro da parte della direttrice di fronte a tutti gli insegnanti e il personale. Le prime lezioni poi sono state già piene di grammatica e nuovi vocaboli, e la grande notizia è che avremo più esami in questo termine che mai. Sopravviverò? Scommettiamo! Nel frattempo, sono stata a un nuovo evento di networking a Ginza, nella splendida cornice del Cité du Temps. La prossima settimana avrò un nuovo evento e un’intervista con un’agenzia di reclutamento. Riuscirò alla fine a trovare un lavoro a tempo pieno in Giappone? Scommettiamo ancora 😛
